The Science Department at Goole Academy offers all pupils the opportunity to learn about the wonders of the biological, chemical and physical worlds while using practical techniques to investigate their environment. All students study KS3 Science in Years 7 and 8 to build on their learning from Primary School. Year 9 sees all pupils study core GCSE, while in Year 10, pupils hone their practical skills as part of the additional GCSE course. In Year 11, pupils can opt to continue their studies by completing the Triple Science course leading to separate qualifications in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. High-quality Advanced-Level provision is planned for the 2017-2018 academic year as we continue to build capacity within the Department.
Pupils are encouraged to learn independently, using the latest digital resources to inspire their interest within the subject. Homework is methodically set to ensure that pupils are stretched intellectually, with feedback given so pupils can show improvement while teaching staff monitor progress. Practical work and computer modelling both help to engage their interest and test understanding.
Career guidance and course choice are all offered as standard, with pupils advised on the best entry level for examinations and suitability of further study. After school clubs also provide students with extra study time and the chance to improve their learning. Our holistic approach to the study of Science is designed to foster a life-long interest in this most fascinating of subjects.
