The Goole Academy mathematics department is currently undergoing a learning revolution. Over the past two years, the department has achieved it highest ever results, 69% 3LP, equalling the national average for pupil progress. However, we do not want to stop there. Our aim is to become one of the best mathematics departments within one of the best schools in the country.
How will we do this?
Our staff are dedicated to providing the best education in the most engaging and fun ways possible. Puzzles, challenges and tasks that not just deliver an answer, but make the pupils think about how they got there and how they will use it in the future. The department is fully resourced with new technology within the classroom and developing systems for students to use at home.
We focus on all pupils by targeting intervention where it is needed most, be that in year 11 or year 7. We have a dedicated intervention team that support pupils at whatever stage in order to achieve the best progress possible.
Students are given the chance to extend their mathematical knowledge through extra-curricular activities throughout the year, with the aim to reaffirm knowledge and explore the subject in more detail.
All pupils within the academy have 4 hours of mathematics per week.
We offer all students in years 10 and 11 the opportunity to achieve two GCSEs in mathematics by delivering the Linked Pair syllabus or a linear GCSE and an optional further mathematics qualification.
In the sixth form we offer the traditional AS and A” mathematics courses as well as GCSE lessons and resit opportunities for students without a ‘C’ grade in mathematics.
Within years 7 & 8, we are developing a mathematics mastery system. This allows pupils to master topics in the first instance and building from there. Initial feedback from pupils has been hugely popular with most asking “why don’t we do this all the time?” More information about this will be made available on the website.
